LEXINGTON, Ky. – South Carolina went into Lexington on Saturday night and upset No. 13 Kentucky by a score of 24-14.
The Gamecocks (4-2, 1-2) secured its first win in Lexington since 2012 and also snapped a two-losing streak to the Wildcats in Saturday night’s win.
South Carolina will now enter they bye week on a three-game winning streak and will hit the field again on October 22 when it welcomes Texas A&M to Williams-Brice Stadium.
Running back MarShawn Lloyd turned in another strong performance as he ran the ball 22 times for 110 yards and one touchdown.
After the game, Lloyd gave all the credit to his offensive line and said they were able to do what they did last night because of the offensive lines’ performance.
“Honestly, just the o-line,” Lloyd said. “They have been amazing. It is finally showing what they can do. At first, everyone was saying, ‘OK, we played South Carolina State and Charlotte and maybe that was the reason why they blocked so good.’ They showed today on the road that they can play with anybody. That is exactly why we did so good because the five up front did what they were supposed to do.”

“Honestly, I was not even paying attention,” Lloyd said. “Everyone was screaming. I turned around and they were like, ‘Get on the field.’ I looked on the jumbotron and saw that there was a fumble. It was really cool. That was the earliest you could start honestly. It just felt great to be able to communicate and start pretty early.”
“We just wanted to keep the ball as long as possible. Everything was working. We were getting first downs. Everything was working in our favor. The o-line was getting on their blocks. We were just chipping it down the field. Just execution was everything during that drive.”
“In the first half, we had opportunities to score. We should have capitalized. They brought a blitz that we didn’t see, I didn’t feel. They brought the safety and he hit me and I have to hold on to the ball on that one. That was a tough one. With the pick, I should have put more on it. It was the right decision, just have to put more into the ball. We had opportunities, so we were happy we were in those positions. Special teams made a lot of big plays. Defense was stepping up so that was good to see. Coming into halftime, we all knew, we weren’t tripping, we came in here and locked in, went out there and executed and felt like we couldn’t be stopped and left some more points on the table.”
“Yeah, I mean, you guys saw the score today of that game. We got a big win, so it was a pretty good day I guess. Crazy how things work. It was a big win for our team. I know it is the first road SEC win here in a while. So, that is bigtime.”
“Heck yeah. It is a big thing for him. He is an emotional coach. He loves to play hard, to have us with him. We believe in everything he is saying in doing. If he is serious about something, we are series about it. He emphasized this game this week. We came in here expecting to win this game. Not just hoping to win, expecting to win.”
“I think last week, I didn’t miss the block, but I didn’t really block him how I was supposed to or how coach wanted me to. I told coach, ‘Coach, I got you. We don’t have any pads on so I can’t lay about out like that.’ It was crazy, man. I just knew I had to go get him and I got him.”
“This is major, man. This a ranked team and we were coming into their house. We had to show people what we were about. All the hype in the preseason, we were standing on that. We wanted to come out here and show people what we are really about and that is what we did.”
“When I picked it up, there was only one person in front of me. As I got close, I finally straighten back up and I was getting ready to dive. O-lineman came and hit it and he about knocked it out.”
“We practiced hard all week. We talk about how we worked hard. People just don’t know how hard we work. Especially the defensive line. We work hard, we spend extra time some times.”
“It felt good. Coach Lindsey hit on it in our Friday meeting. He was saying how many sacks we missed. He said, ‘This week can be the week.’ And we went out there and proved it. ”
“It was real, real good. Since I have gotten here, we haven’t beat Kentucky. Us pulling out the win, it shows a lot. Shows the world that we really can play SEC football. That is what we were trying to prove tonight, and I think we did that.”
“This was a big confidence boost for us. I think that we really needed that. I needed it. I feel good. Get this bye week and come back better than ever.”
“I am not going to lie, it felt good. I almost missed the sack though. I almost went inside and so when he bounced it back outside, I am glad Zacch was there. He almost had a sack before me but I am glad I was there to clean it up. It felt good to get a sack. I don’t really get too many of those so whenever I do, I take it seriously.”

“Just everybody staying in their gaps. Everybody doing their job and winning their one-on-ones. Most of his yards came from explosive plays but I would say we pretty much stopped the run in my opinion.”
