No need to leave Fido behind – Dallas is ready for you and your four-legged friend as you embark on your city getaway. From mornings in the farmer's market to trolley rides, Dallas is just one of those cities that makes traveling with your pet easy.
1Start with Breakfast
Breakfast tacos and tamales await at El Mero Mero. Tucked inside a small stall at the Dallas Farmer’s Market, El Mero Mero serves authentic food via a family-owned business. The weekend menu includes pozole and barbacoa by the pound – perfect for curing an overindulgent night.
2A Shopping Stroll
Walk off the tamales with a lap around the farmer’s market. Inside, The Market is home to more than a dozen stalls to explore, including an outpost of Bullzerk, a popular t-shirt shop known for its witty puns. Outside, The Shed transforms each weekend with local vendors showing artisan creations, produce and unique gifts.
3Play Time
Let the pup run off some energy at Bark Park Central. Located just a block over from the main thoroughfare of Deep Ellum, the neighborhood’s artsy influence is obvious all around the dog park – colorful murals line the park’s pillars, each featuring whimsical dogs painted by local artists.
4Explore Street Art
The best way to discover the wonders of Deep Ellum is to tour the district on foot and intake all amazing street art and murals. Where once the sides of building were vandalized with graffiti, now are covered with vibrant, beautiful murals. Grab your camera, don your best walking shoes and follow the mural trail here. Start at the Visit Dallas mural located at the corner of Malcolm X and MLK Boulevard.
5Catch the View
Head west to the foot of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, where a pedestrian bridge over the Trinity River provides magnificent views of the city. Get the perfect shot of your pet with the iconic Dallas skyline in the background.
6Dinner for Two
Grab a table on the patio, but make a decision about cuisine first. The area is full of options, from elevated Mexican fare at Beto & Son to build-your-own creations at Holy Crust. For dessert, stop by the Cake Bar‘s cake slice ATM.
1Start with Coffee
Make your way to Oak Lawn for a coffee stop at a local favorite, La La Land Kind Café. Make a selection from the shop’s extensive matcha menu and pair it with a hearty avocado toast to fuel up for the day ahead.
2Work Up an Appetite
Walk among locals at the Katy Trail, one of Dallas’ most popular trails. There are several entry points throughout Uptown, but the entrances close to West Village make for the easiest exploration of one of the city’s most walkable neighborhoods.
3Play Date
It’s time for the pup to make friends, so head to the bar! While the adults can enjoy a cold cocktail, the pups can run around and enjoy Mutt’s Cantina‘s spacious grounds. Treat your pet to a Pupsicle, a frozen beef broth and peanut butter popsicle that’s sure to help cool down.
4Go For a Ride
Head back to your hotel for an afternoon siesta aboard the McKinney Avenue Trolley. The free trolley runs in a loop through Uptown before making its way through Downtown and back again, and there’s a stop just steps from Mutt’s Cantina.
5Roam Free
After a cat nap, head out to explore Downtown parks. Pacific Plaza offers plenty of green space for your dog to do its business, or you can enjoy off-leash play in the dog area at either Main Street Garden or Klyde Warren Park.
6Cool with a Margarita
You can’t leave Dallas without getting a margarita! After all, we’re the home of the frozen margarita and the Margarita Mile. Check in at La Ventana, one of the Mile’s many stops – you’ll be one step closer to some delightful prizes.
Need a Ride?
Check the schedule for Dallas’ light rail system DART and the free M-Line Trolley for convenient rides through the Downtown Dallas and surrounding areas. After 6 pm, call or text Efrogs, a free golf-cart rideshare program that gets you going without the hassle of a car.
