You can’t go on any soccer team’s social media feed anymore without seeing Ted Lasso as a GIF, as a reference, or his name comes up when a team fires a coach. For those who have been living under a rock, Ted Lasso is a comedy-drama that is available on the streaming service Apple TV+.
The show is based on the character created by the show’s star Jason Sudeikis and is about an American soccer head coach hired to coach an English soccer team by an owner who wants to spite her ex-husband. Lasso’s style of coaching is the typical stereotypical things you would see from a high school football coach, with his manner of speaking and the way he treats his players, he also has very little clue as to coaching a professional soccer team.
Ted Lasso has garnered critical acclaim, and has now run for 2 seasons, and to say there is no market for a show like this is just plain false. Ted Lasso was renewed for a third season and the show has recently won the 2021 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
